Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Casualty Treaty Underwriter to join our team.

  • This role involves underwriting renewal and new profitable casualty treaty business, mainly originating from Australia & New Zealand markets.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite core and transactional treaties.
  • Analyse treaty submissions and extract key information for underwriting purposes.
  • Evaluate original insurance wordings and treaty contracts for coverage aspects and compliance with established guidelines.
  • Utilise appropriate underwriting tools and pricing models/methodologies.
  • Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and legal teams to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Adhere to best practices and comply with underwriting guidelines and renewal messages.
  • Support the desk head in monitoring the risk landscape and its impact on strategy.
  • Gather data, analyse risk, determine steering values, and structure deals.
  • Escalate cases exceeding underwriting authority in accordance with referral procedures.
  • Prepare decisions on final deal structures, share, premium/rates, terms, and conditions.
Client Interactions:
  • Identify new opportunities to originate business.
  • Provide structured solutions for clients.
  • Consider innovative solutions to meet client needs.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and brokers through regular interactions.
Requirements:
  • Strong experience in casualty underwriting, including pricing, portfolio analysis, treaty structures, and contracts.
  • At least 8 years of experience in treaty underwriting preferred.
  • High-level client management ability, negotiation skills, influencing capability, and proven relationship-building skills.
  • Analytical proficiency, with Actuarial experience viewed positively.
  • Rigorous contract knowledge.
  • Solid understanding of CTP and Workers Compensation schemes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Aptitude to engage colleagues, work well in teams, and also independently.
  • Flexibility in working hours and travel where necessary.

  • Bachelor's degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant field preferred.
  • Robust adherence to underwriting practices and guidelines.
