Technical Officer, Environment and Science

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Officer to join our team in the Environment and Science division. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in planning and conducting research and monitoring of aquatic threatened species throughout Queensland.
Key Responsibilities- Research and Analysis: You will demonstrate competency in research and analysis, understanding the principles of conservation biology and threatened species management. You will contribute to project design, project management, and achievement of agreed outcomes, showing attention to detail and the ability to collect and accurately manage data.
- Technical Support: You will provide high-quality technical support to research scientists, with a minimum of 2 years' experience with capture, handling, and measuring aquatic species. You will assist with planning field trips, preparing documentation, maintaining equipment and vessels, and training of volunteers.
- Stakeholder Engagement: You will build relationships, communicate, and negotiate with a range of clients and stakeholders, including traditional owners, research institutions, Marine Parks staff, and volunteers from the community.
- Project Management: You will demonstrate ability to manage priorities and achieve outcomes within specified timeframes, managing your time to achieve team goals and meet deadlines.
- Teamwork: You will work effectively as part of a small team, supervising volunteers and prioritizing their activities in line with department objectives.
- Workplace Equity and Diversity: You will demonstrate a commitment to workplace equity and diversity, being inclusive and respectful of all people regardless of gender, race, disability, or sexual orientation.
- Minimum 2 years' experience with capture, handling, and measuring aquatic species
- High level verbal and written skills to contribute to communication of project outcomes
- Ability to work effectively in remote field conditions for periods of up to two weeks
- Coxswain Certificate or ability to obtain one within six months of commencing the role
