Project Estimator Role Overview

This is a senior project estimator role within a commercial building company.

  • Manage the tender process from start to finish, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of projects.
  • Lead on take offs and negotiations with subcontractors to ensure best value for the business.
  • Collaborate closely with directors of the business to develop strategic plans and align with key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough cost evaluations, pricing analysis of quotes, and assessments of preliminary requirements for project delivery.
  • Develop detailed project budgets, cost models, and bid proposals that incorporate cost-saving and value engineering options.
  • Work in collaboration with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to align on scope and costs.
  • Stay informed about market conditions and integrate insights into cost forecasting.
  • Complete peer reviews of tender estimates to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior estimators, contribute to the development of estimating tools and processes, and mentor team members to enhance their skills.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • 8+ years industry experience in the commercial space, preferably working on tenders above $5 million.
  • Strong understanding of current rates and market conditions in the commercial environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • A keen eye for detail and accuracy in take-offs and other aspects of estimating.
  • Proven experience working for a Tier 1, 2, or 3 builder or a large fit-out contractor.
  • Local experience is preferred for this role.
