Job Overview

The role of a Mental Health and Disability Case Investigator is to conduct thorough investigations into deaths involving individuals with mental health conditions or disabilities.

This involves reviewing medical, legal, and policy documents, analysing data and literature to identify systemic issues and contributing factors, and preparing clear evidence-based advice and recommendations for coroners.

  • This position requires strong analytical skills to synthesise complex concepts into concise reports.
  • A team player who builds strong relationships across disciplines will be successful in this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth reviews of medical, legal, and policy documents.
  • Analyse data and literature to identify systemic issues and contributing factors.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to inform investigations.
  • Communicate complex findings to a range of audiences, including coroners and court leadership.
About the Unit

The Coroners Prevention Unit (CPU) is a multidisciplinary team supporting coroners to prevent future deaths in Victoria.

The CPU plays a critical role in promoting public health and safety and the administration of justice.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Candidates should have:

  • Demonstrated experience in research and analysis with the ability to synthesise complex concepts into concise reports.
  • Exceptional organisational skills to plan and manage in-depth case loads.
  • A team player who builds strong relationships across disciplines.
