Job Title:

Environment and Heritage Specialist

About the Role:

This position plays a key role in developing and implementing programs to achieve environment and heritage outcomes in the Southern Gulf region.

The successful candidate will establish and implement projects to support property plans, land condition monitoring, education and awareness, adult learning, and on-ground works across the region.

We will implement these programs to support the priorities of the Regional NRM Plan.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Manage natural resource management projects including budgeting, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Implement projects by building partnerships with pastoralists, local governments, community groups, government agencies, project investors, and Traditional Owners.
  • Identify potential funding opportunities and develop applications for funding from government, philanthropic, and corporate sources.
  • Maintain professional awareness of policy developments and land management practices providing advice and analysis on emerging issues and opportunities.
  • Contribute to the success of the team through positive and flexible contributions to management and administration.
Key Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualifications in agricultural or environmental science or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge of natural resource management principles and concepts particularly weed and pest management.
  • Experience in extension principles and practices engaging with and providing capacity building activities for the agricultural and land management sectors.
  • High organisational skills to coordinate multiple projects time management to meet deadlines and written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven initiative and ability to work autonomously and as an effective team member meeting deadlines and achieving quality outcomes.
  • Able to develop and document innovative projects identify funding opportunities and set and deliver specific objectives in collaboration with partners and stakeholders.
  • Sound understanding of monitoring and evaluation principles and practice experience with GIS mapping technology and online MERI systems is desirable.
Additional Factors:

This role requires the ability to take initiative and work unsupervised as required. A sound general knowledge of natural resource management principles supplemented with professional competencies relevant to the region is essential.

The position requires travel throughout the region including significant distances on unsealed roads in remote areas Four-wheel drive operation experience would be advantageous.

This is a full-time position based in Mt Isa.
