Our Youth Services team aims to enhance access and engagement with education through developing mental wellbeing among young people.

We offer best practice individualized support pathways, including psychological intervention, counseling and case management support. Our evidence-based wellbeing group programs are both proactive and developmentally focused, meeting the needs of children and young people.

We currently seek a qualified professional to join our team as a Counsellor. This is a part-time fixed-term position supporting our vocational school at Victoria Point in Queensland.

About the Role:

  • Deliver brief counseling interventions to reduce barriers to education including mental health symptomology, hyperactivity and learning disorders.
  • In accordance with our Thrive framework, co-design and/or deliver evidence-based group programs aimed at prevention or early intervention of barriers to education including anxiety, interpersonal communication, hyperactivity, anger and substance misuse.
  • Work with others to deliver the YMCA's Thrive framework across social impact initiatives; create educational resources; and provide individualized learning support.
  • Support students' learning by administering assessments, formulating Personal Education Plans with teaching staff and resourcing students with disabilities.
  • Co-develop Personal Education Plans for students to accommodate mental health symptomology, developmental disorders, challenging behaviors and learning disorders/differences.

Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Counselling and/or Psychology, fully registered or able to be registered with the Australian Counselling Association and/or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia.
  • Highly developed skills and experience working with young people to provide strategic support enabling students to improve their social-emotional, academic and vocational capacities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based trauma-informed practices supporting young people experiencing difficulties related to mental health, development disorders, cognitive impairment and other similar conditions.
  • Sound knowledge of computer systems, including Microsoft Office suite proficiency.
