We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Mechanical Engineer and Tooling Specialist to join our team at Careerone Partner Network based in Dandenong. This role is responsible for the design and development of custom plastic extrusion processes and the creation of high-quality tooling to improve our productivity, material usage, and overall quality. You will work closely with our senior Engineer Manager, Manufacturing, QC, Materials, and Sales teams to achieve our common objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering support and documentation, and determine materials, equipment, capacities, material flows, and plant layout.
  • Set up work measurement programs and develop principles and standards for labour utilization by analyzing work samples.
  • Design equipment, machines, and components of our products.
  • Conduct inspections and test plans for plant to ensure optimal performance.
  • Take ownership of new projects from start to finish, including communicating with internal stakeholders to develop quotations and understanding customer requirements and applications.
  • Design tooling and develop processes for mono and co-extrusion plastic profiles, tubes, and secondary fabrication individually or with other process engineers.
  • Lead new tooling development processes for assigned projects, using a hands-on approach to meet customer expectations with quality and on-time delivery of samples.
  • Oversee tool making activities in the machine shop, ensuring that the tools produced meet design criteria and company standards.
  • Troubleshoot process difficulties on a daily basis and support production.
  • Work with the Engineer Manager to coordinate timely responses to rebuilding tooling or handling special tooling needs that cannot be planned for in advance.
  • Work on continual improvement projects to improve efficiencies and reduce scrap.
  • Facilitate and analyze operational and maintenance processes, operational data, optimize facility layout, and labour utilization to ensure effective workflow.
  • Prepare and develop standards and work instructions for manufacture, manage the use of materials, plant, and equipment, quality control, testing, and maintenance in accordance with relevant principles and policies.

Other Key Elements:

  • Follow and support plant and corporate safety policies and initiatives.
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate tool development trials.
  • Maintain engineering databases and documentation as required.
  • Perform other accountabilities as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong hands-on skills and the willingness to work on the floor.
  • A working knowledge of CAD systems, CAD/CAM software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Task-oriented, strong analytical skills, and well-organized.
  • Strong interpersonal and excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Aptitude to learn and be a strong team player.

Estimated Salary: $85,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
