Community and Peer Advisor Role

We are seeking a skilled Community and Peer Advisor to join our regional Community Engagement Team. In this role, you will provide personalized peer support services to current and former ADF members and their families.

Your lived experience of mental health issues and Australian Defence Force service as an ex-ADF member is essential for this position. You will use your experience to respectfully support and educate clients, consumers, and stakeholders about strengths-based, recovery-oriented practices and community support services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing personalized peer support services to current and former ADF members and their families
  • Sharing knowledge gained through your relevant lived experience and recovery to promote awareness, understanding, and service improvement
  • Role modeling behaviors that promote mental health recovery and wellness for client, community, and stakeholder education and engagement
  • Co-facilitating relevant group programs
  • Working effectively and cooperatively as a member of the Community Engagement Team
  • Representing the organization and the peer workforce to strengthen the organization's public profile
  • Influencing a recovery approach to service delivery for veterans and serving ADF members and their families
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of clinical practice and governance policies and accreditation
  • Participating in program evaluation and research activities, strategic direction, and quality improvement
  • Supporting participative work place practices in line with WHS, workplace diversity, and APS values

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Lived experience of ADF service as an ex-ADF member
  • Lived experience of mental health issues and recovery
  • Ability, readiness, and dedication to intentionally, safely, and effectively utilize your experience to mentor and support others
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training, professional development, and supervision, including completion of Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work
  • Working with Children (WWC) and/or Vulnerable People Checks/Clearance prior to commencing in the position
