Defence Meteorologist Role

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated professional to join our team as a Defence Decision Support Meteorologist - Leave Relief.

This role provides occupants with the opportunity to backfill leave and operational requirements, leading to the development of a strong knowledge of local and global environmental intelligence.

The Defence Decision Support Meteorologists work in a dynamic and customer-focused environment, responsible for building and maintaining close working relationships with operational ADF units and personnel.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and issue forecasts and warnings specific to ADF requirements
  • Maintain a meteorological watch and amendment service
  • Take meteorological observations

The successful applicant will be required to provide timely and valuable meteorological advice to ensure safe operations so that the ADF can use the weather to their operational advantage.

Key Requirements:

  • APS Level 6 qualifications
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small office team
  • Confidence in making independent meteorological decisions

Working Arrangements:

  • Leave relief periods in blocks of 1-6 weeks
  • Non-leave relief periods occupied through project work to support Defence-related service provision
