Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced In House Counsel to join our client's team in Newcastle CBD. As a key member of the organization, you will provide guidance on legal, regulatory, compliance, and risk management issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide commercial advice and communications with regulators, including in the areas of mining, environment, planning, and safety.
  • Negotiate, draft, and advise on a wide range of contracts.
  • Participate in teams working on projects such as construction, approvals, process improvement, and renewables.
  • Assist with dispute resolution, including taking steps to minimize litigation risk.
  • Assist with drafting legal documents that protect the Company's position.
Requirements
  • Minimum 4-7 years' post-admission experience in contracts, commercial, construction, or environment law, energy, and resources, preferably with some in-house experience.
  • Current practicing certificate and Australian driver's license.
  • Knowledge of NSW mining, environment, and planning laws (or the ability to quickly acquire same).
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Able to demonstrate strong commercial, legal, and risk acumen.
  • Established and confident negotiating skills.
