Job Title: Senior In-House Counsel Leader


We are seeking a highly experienced legal practitioner to lead our in-house Legal Team, providing expert guidance and leadership to ensure the delivery of comprehensive legal services that enable the ABC to achieve its objectives and maintain its reputation of trust.


As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will provide high-level, practical legal advice to the Managing Director, ABC Board, and other stakeholders on complex matters that impact the ABC's overall position and operations. You will also partner with colleagues across the Corporation to provide legal advice, analysis, and workable solutions on legal matters.


The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of media law, including defamation, media regulation, contracting, and other laws relevant to a media organisation. They will also have a strong understanding of public interest journalism and the demands of the new digital age.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Lead the ABC's in-house Legal Team, providing guidance and mentoring to strengthen the Legal Team's role as strategic business partners
  • Provide high-level, practical legal advice to the Managing Director, ABC Board, and other stakeholders on complex matters
  • Partner with colleagues across the Corporation to provide legal advice, analysis, and workable solutions on legal matters
  • Develop and implement service delivery strategies to meet evolving business needs

Requirements:



  • Highly experienced legal practitioner with a minimum of 15 years' experience
  • Deep knowledge and expertise in media law, including defamation, media regulation, contracting, and other laws relevant to a media organisation
  • Strong understanding of public interest journalism and the demands of the new digital age
  • Engaging, collegiate, and collaborative working style
  • Ability to quickly pivot and work in a fast-paced, demanding environment
