Position Overview

As a key member of the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN) School of Navigation Warfare and Bridge Training Faculty, you will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive training to the Navy's Maritime Warfare Officers.

In the capacity of a Senior Maritime Warfare Instructor, your primary responsibility will be to provide advanced instruction in navigation and tactical operations, ensuring that junior Maritime Warfare Officers are well-equipped to perform effectively in their roles. This position encompasses a blend of classroom instruction, simulation exercises, and occasional practical training at sea, aimed at fostering operational readiness. Key responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating specialized training in navigation and warfare strategies
  • Conducting extensive simulation-based training sessions
  • Supporting course delivery through programming, briefings, and assessment activities
  • Participating in the review and enhancement of training programs
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of navigation and warfare tactics and systems
  • Providing training outside standard hours as part of a shift roster

Candidate Profile

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • The capability to obtain and uphold a defence security clearance of NV1 or higher
  • A minimum of 18 months of experience as a Navigating Officer or Principal Warfare Officer on a RAN Frigate or Destroyer, within the last five years, or an equivalent Commonwealth position
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with a proven capacity to demonstrate initiative and perform effectively under pressure
