Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Policy Strategist to join our team. In this role, you will play a key part in shaping and implementing policies that drive positive change.

This position involves supporting the identification and review of systemic issues, providing insights and recommendations to improve policies, practices, and systems. You will work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure the rights and needs of affected individuals are prioritised, and contribute to the development of informed, trauma-sensitive approaches.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Policymaking: Lead the development and implementation of policy initiatives that address complex social issues. Ensure project deliverables are achieved on time and meet strategic objectives.
  2. Research and Analysis: Conduct research and in-depth analysis on policy and legislative issues affecting vulnerable populations. Develop evidence-based policy options and recommendations for government agencies.
  3. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare high-quality reports, discussion papers, briefing notes, and correspondence on policy issues. Provide clear and concise analysis, ensuring documents are accessible to diverse audiences.
  4. Collaboration and Culture Building: Work closely with internal stakeholders to develop resources and foster a positive, collaborative work culture. Provide guidance to less experienced officers.
  5. Ad-hoc Tasks: Perform other duties as directed that contribute to the functions and objectives of the role.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Policymaking Experience: Proven experience in developing and implementing policies, including project management and timely delivery of outputs.
  2. Policy Knowledge: Strong understanding of policy environments, particularly related to human rights and social justice.
  3. Research and Analytical Skills: Ability to research, analyse, and interpret complex information, identifying key issues and developing actionable recommendations.
  4. Consultation and Communication: High-level consultation skills with the ability to engage stakeholders on sensitive matters, and strong writing skills to prepare reports and briefs for diverse audiences.
  5. Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, building cooperative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Cultural Sensitivity: Commitment to trauma-informed care principles and capacity for culturally sensitive decision-making.
