Job Opportunity

The Collection Care Branch is seeking a skilled Assistant Conservator to join their team. As an Assistant Conservator, you will be involved in the conservation of cultural heritage materials and preparation of items for exhibition and display.

This role requires strong problem-solving skills, excellent manual dexterity, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

About the Role

You will be responsible for:

  • Conservation of collection items to support long-term preservation
  • Preparation of items for exhibition and display to enable access for visitors
  • Collaborating with the team to achieve conservation goals

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience working with cultural heritage materials
  • Demonstrated excellent manual dexterity in a craft-based or technical activity

About the Collection Care Branch

The Collection Care Branch develops and implements storage, preservation, and conservation programs for all physical material formats in the collections of the State Library. The Branch undertakes individual conservation treatments and preparation of items for display in-house, and for loan to other institutions, assuming the registration function for these. Collection Care is responsible for the collection conservation program, in order to maintain access to collections through their maintenance; conservation of individual items; and processing of new acquisitions to the collection to ensure accessibility. The Branch monitors environmental conditions within the Library, coordinates collection disaster-response strategies and trains staff in correct handling of the collection.
