**Job Role:** Peer Support Specialist

We are seeking an experienced professional to join our mental health service at the Southern Adelaide region. As a key component of recovery-oriented care, you will leverage your personal experience of mental health challenges and recovery to model recovery pathways and act as a recovery champion.

Your duties will include:

  • Providing guidance and support to individuals as they define their mental health experiences and identities;
  • Assisting to increase cultural safety in mental health care for diverse consumers, including First Nations Australians and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities;
  • Supporting individuals to articulate their needs and goals, and advocating for inclusion in care planning and service delivery;

To be successful in this role, you will require skills in building connected relationships with consumers and modelling relatable recovery pathways. You will also need personal experience of mental health challenges and recovery, as well as understanding and/or experience of the challenges associated with acute mental illness and its implications for personal recovery.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement recovery-focused care plans;
  • Providing education and support to consumers on mental health management and self-care strategies;
  • Engaging with consumers to identify and address gaps in mental health services;

In this role, you will have opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of individuals experiencing mental health challenges and to help build a more inclusive and compassionate mental health system.
