About this role
A Mental Health Advocate supports individuals with mental health issues through peer support, positive influence, education, and facilitation of self-advocacy. This role acknowledges the importance of lived experience in creating a supportive environment.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Demonstrated knowledge of recovery principles and strength-based approaches when working with consumers with mental health issues.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality while ensuring consumer safety.
- Proficiency in computer literacy and ability to manage time effectively to meet commitments.
- Advocating for consumer perspectives to identify service improvements and enhance care quality.
**Requirements:**
- Vaccination against certain vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in relevant health directives.
- COVID-19 vaccination according to current public health guidelines.
- A genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to have personal lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use issues or caring for someone with these issues.
