Pregnancy Care Specialist
About the JobBirthing services in the Northern Territory are provided across four geographical locations: Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine, and Nhulunbuy. The region offers diverse settings for antenatal, postnatal, and intrapartum care.
The Northern Territory Health Department provides various models of care, including:
- Midwifery Group Practice (caseload/continuity of carer)
- Team midwifery
- Remote Area Maternity care
- General Practitioner Obstetrician care
- Shared care
- Public hospital maternity care
- Public hospital high risk maternity care
Candidates must have a minimum of 12 months experience in a relevant clinical area to be considered for this role.
Main Responsibilities- Provide expert pregnancy care to an allocated group of clients, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating their needs.
- Work within the registered nurse/midwife scope of practice and adhere to relevant legislation, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and contribute to a safe work environment for consumers and staff.
- Demonstrate NTH values: safe; responsive; kind – in all interactions with consumers and colleagues.
- Foster a positive workplace culture through role modelling appropriate behaviour.
- Maintain defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety policies, and procedures.
- Capacity to work shift work and be redeployed to other clinical areas as needed.
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Demonstrated understanding of client care coordination and ability to achieve positive clinical outcomes.
- Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to contribute to the multidisciplinary team.
- Understanding of social and cultural issues influencing healthcare provision.
- Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement principles in a healthcare setting.
