Environmental Conservation Opportunity

This role presents a unique chance to participate in the restoration of protected natural ecosystems.

Responsibilities
  • Cutting and marking tracks
  • Installing, refilling, and monitoring bait stations
  • Monitoring kiwi, kokako, and rodents
  • Monitoring bats, lizards, and freshwater fish
  • Entering data
  • Weeding and planting the herb garden
  • Building and landscaping
  • Chopping wood
  • And other related conservation activities
Project Overview

The organization operates on sustainable principles and is entirely off-grid, with structures and tools recycled from previous projects. Volunteers work with the Department of Conservation to protect and monitor wildlife, create access trails, safeguard native species, plant native trees, and maintain an environment for endangered birds like the Kiwi and Kokako.

This project offers a rewarding experience for all involved while fostering an environment conducive to the coexistence of various species.

Duration and Costs

Volunteers can stay for at least 2 weeks, and the costs include all food, accommodation, pre-departure, and in-country support, orientation, and project-related activities.

However, volunteers are expected to cover their own expenses for flights, travel insurance, personal spending, visas, and vaccinations.

Requirements

Participants should be adaptable, as weather conditions may impact daily activities. There will also be opportunities to explore the surrounding areas.
