Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Development Manager to join our team at Amazon Web Services Australia Pty Ltd. As a key member of our Enterprise Networking organization, you will be responsible for developing and operating large-scale distributed systems and web services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive continual improvement in systems operations through tool building and iterative improvement.
  • Define and drive projects that improve efficiency in day-to-day tasks (or automate them away completely), identifying key metrics that reflect the success of those projects, and reporting on their progress.
  • Establish strong relationships with stakeholders and customers to understand and meet their needs, clarify requirements, and collaboratively develop designs from ambiguous or nebulous problems at wide scale.
  • Manage a highly technical team, and develop a deep knowledge of your area in order to propose new designs for wider review.
  • Develop and maintain a culture of innovation and operational efficiency in the team.
  • Hiring, growing and retaining engineering team keeping up with the high Amazon bar.

As a Systems Development Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of software and systems development engineers to develop and improve systems and automation needs across a complex and interconnected tool ecosystem.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or five or more years of work experience in System development as an equivalent.
  • 5 or more years of people management experience leading System development teams.
  • Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Java, C/C++, C#, Objective C, Python, JavaScript, Ruby, and Go.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems or web services.
  • Experience in managing large scale infrastructure and automation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Experience developing in Python for similar modern programming language, such as C++, Java, C#, or Ruby.
  • Strong systems engineering fundamentals (networking, scripting, UI frameworks, data models, or operating systems).
