AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
As a Network Development Manager for the Enterprise Network team in AWS Networking, you will be responsible for building and managing Data Centers globally. Your job is to lead a team of 6+ highly skilled Network Development Engineers and deliver solutions that are always available, never constrain customers, continually reduce cost and provide low and consistent latency. You will leverage your skills in strategy, network design and planning, capacity management, project management, recruiting and team development to build a high performing team that delivers an exceptional customer experience.
Key job responsibilities
Operational Excellence
As a manager within the Networking team you will be expected to drive operational excellence in everything we do. This includes creating sane processes and procedures to improve efficiency in our day-to-day tasks and projects.
Operational Measurement and Optimization
As a Network Engineering manager you will be expected to drive quality into the metrics we report and to create mechanisms to assist us in focusing on the areas that give us the best ROI. This includes measurement of the Internet operational performance, availability, network capacity, trends, etc. You will drive and define processes that optimize our workflow and create efficiencies in how we operate to drive continual improvement.
Technical Leadership
As a manager of a highly technical team, which has responsibility for performance and operational availability of the Enterprise Network, you will be expected to have a deep knowledge of your area. As part of your role, you will be required to review and approve network changes for your team. Additionally, you will on occasion need to develop a detailed, low-level understanding of network issues that do occur and to be able to represent those issues at operational management review meetings.
Goal Setting and Delivery
You will directly own defining or refining and delivering strategic goals for your team. As part of this responsibility, you will be expected to communicate goals to the team, align the necessary resources, and communicate status to the wider leadership team.
Performance Management/Team Health
You will own all facets of performance and career management for the team. Regular one-on-one meetings with all team members are required. You will be expected to provide both technical and soft skills mentoring in order to maintain a well-rounded, world-class organization. This includes project management, quality audits and coordination of training sessions with senior-level engineers as well as day-to-day oversight of the team.
Recruiting and Hiring
Automation
You will be heavily involved in developing automation, as well as setting our automation teams' roadmap, based upon identifying significant opportunities where automation can tackle volume, systemic or critical operational issues.
