Xero strives to automate routine tasks, unlock actionable insights and connect businesses with the right data, advisors and apps. The Incident and Problem Management team within the Site Reliability Engineering organization plays a pivotal role in driving enduring reliability across all products and services.

The Technical Duty Officer owns the incident management process, ensuring it drives lasting reliability across Xero's products and services. This includes providing expert leadership during critical outages, coordinating teams for streamlined decision-making and swift resolution.

A suitable candidate will have previous experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, hands-on expertise troubleshooting AWS hosted services, and strong communication skills including technical issue explanation.

This role forms the backbone of a new team, providing a Technical Duty Officer function. The TDO will drive rapid mitigation and enduring resolution of impactful events, collaborate with product teams to thoroughly analyze failures and integrate insights for improved service reliability, scalability and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage incident response processes to ensure quick resolution and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
  • Analyze service failures to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for enhanced reliability.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation to support incident response efforts.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering or equivalent field.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing platforms, particularly AWS.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
