Job Title: Technical Automation Specialist

This position is responsible for leading the deployment and support of electrical control systems, focusing on designing, documenting, testing, and commissioning material handling automation hardware and PLC software.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing advanced technical support to maintenance teams as needed
  • Ensuring conformance to occupational health and safety standards in all design and execution work
  • Collaborating with colleagues to prepare budget estimates and quotes
  • Conducting regular system diagnostics and analysis procedures and providing detailed customer reports
  • Designing and configuring PLC programs, as well as setting up SCADA and PLC-related equipment such as HMIs, scanners, roller drive-cards, and VSDs
  • Reporting on designed/installed equipment that does not meet design specifications
  • On-site testing and commissioning of systems
  • Preparing test plans and operator/technical manuals
  • Training client personnel and providing ongoing customer support
Requirements:
  • Qualifications: degree in an engineering or scientific discipline or equivalent electrical trade qualification with tertiary education in relevant areas like engineering/electronics/mechatronics
  • Expertise in configuration, programming, and commissioning of PLCs (Siemens S7 preferred), variable speed drives, barcode scanners, and safety devices
  • Knowledge of SCADA applications like ICONICS, CITEC, and WINCC
  • Familiarity with materials handling system controls is highly desirable, including conveyors and sortation
  • Ability to work independently and lead teams/projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Electrical trades license qualification is highly regarded
