Dog Guide Mobility Services Instructor

As a dog guide instructor, you will be responsible for providing assistance to individuals who are blind or have low vision. This involves instructing clients in the use of seeing eye dogs as a mobility aid and interviewing applicants to assess their suitability for training.
You will also be required to assess dog suitability and train selected dogs to match client needs. This role requires effective working relationships with clients, strong communication skills, and the ability to meet physical demands of the job including walking approximately 12 kilometres a day in all weather.
Key Responsibilities- Instruct clients in using seeing eye dogs as a mobility aid.
- Interview applicants to assess their suitability for training.
- Assess dog suitability and train selected dogs to match client needs.
- A qualification as an instructor recognised by the International Guide Dog Federation.
- Form effective working relationships with clients and deliver person-centred services.
- Meet the physical demands of the job, including walking approximately 12 kilometres a day in all weather.
- Understand and apply current animal welfare and dog training principles.
- Developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
