Underwriter Job Description

Marsh McLennan is seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our team in Melbourne. As an Underwriter, you will play a critical role in determining the acceptability, conditions, and pricing of insurance risks in accordance with our business plan and underwriting guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite commercial and domestic insurance business in accordance with our underwriting rules and guidelines.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of current legislation, underwriting acceptance levels, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Identify new business opportunities within our underwriting appetite.
  • Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with Senior Underwriters on renewal processes, endorsements, and new business quotations.
  • Actively manage scheme renewal processes, including timely preparation of renewal submissions.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and implement changes.
  • Build and develop relationships with brokers, Marsh business partners, and Capital Providers/Insurers.
  • Deliver exceptional service to brokers while managing insurer interactions professionally and sensitively.
  • Ensure timely and accurate responses to brokers and stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in underwriting commercial and domestic insurance business.
  • Broad insurance industry knowledge and understanding of underwriting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Previous experience with underwriting systems is an advantage.
  • Ability to deliver results on time and in full.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Team player with high integrity and energy.
