The APS is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Curator to join our team as a Collections Management Specialist. This is a leadership role that requires a strong understanding of collection management principles and practices.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement departmental directives to achieve organisational objectives.
- Contribute to strategic planning and provide support to the Senior Air Force Heritage Collections Manager Directorate.
- Lead team development and effective Directorate promotion through developing complex relationships with stakeholders.
- Manage the Air Force Heritage Collection and provide specialist curatorial and collections guidance.
- Engage with Government agencies, Directorates, external organisations and individuals to contribute to the management of the Air Force History and Heritage Program.
- Relevant tertiary qualification and/or substantial proven experience in a cultural collecting institution.
- Proven knowledge of and experience in the principles and practices of collection management.
- Functional experience in museological practice with the ability to undertake quality assurance reviews.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-directorate communication.
- Excellent time management, self-management and experience in managing multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail with proven understanding of the role of governance and ethical considerations of collection management and curatorial activities.
- Proven experience in managing diverse demands and activities, some of a repetitive nature, as well as leading planning, development and risk management in the collection management arena.
- Demonstrated relevant supervisory capability and the ability to assist or share information to the benefit of peers and Directorate personnel.
- Demonstrated experience with current information and communication technology (ICT) with the capability to administer relevant collection management systems or digital asset management databases.
- Current Australian driver's license, with the understanding that operating outside normal working hours may be required.
