Animal Technician Job Summary">

This role provides an opportunity to support cutting-edge research and teaching activities in a dynamic environment.

The Animal Technician will be responsible for caring for and managing laboratory species, ensuring their health and wellbeing while assisting researchers and academics.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute directly to scientific advancements in medicine, dentistry, and health services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Animal Care and Welfare: Provide daily care, monitor health, perform euthanasia when required, and ensure the wellbeing of research animals.
  • Research Support: Assist in preparing animals for procedures, maintain colonies, and ensure compliance with ethical standards.
  • Facility Management: Maintain clean and safe environments, manage inventory, and adhere to regulatory policies.
  • Collaboration and Training: Work closely with researchers, participate in training activities, and contribute to a team-oriented environment.
Requirements:
  • A compassionate and detail-oriented individual with a strong commitment to animal welfare.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment supporting scientific research.
  • Flexibility with working arrangements, including weekend and public holiday shift work.
  • Possess a Diploma of Animal Technology or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in animal handling techniques and maintaining accurate records.
  • Knowledge of regulatory systems governing animal research, including relevant Codes of Practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Practical experience in a research setting and familiarity with quarantine requirements and breeding programs.
  • Comfortable with physical activities including manual handling and animal restraint.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently when required.
