The Biosecurity Plant and Science Services Division employs a risk management approach to establish robust border controls, protecting Australia's plant health status through intelligence-led and science-based measures.
Job DescriptionThis high-containment role involves managing biosecurity risks for avian imports at a secure facility, ensuring the safety of Australian agriculture by safeguarding against potential threats.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement effective strategies to manage avian import processes and biosecurity operations in a high-containment (BC3) environment.
- Collaborate with on-site industry representatives to ensure compliance with established procedures and conditions.
- Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate digital and manual records for audits and operational purposes.
- Foster strong relationships with clients, industry stakeholders, and other government agencies as required.
We seek individuals with a solid understanding of animal husbandry principles, including first aid and identifying signs of sickness. Additional requirements include:
- Experience in managing animal welfare and a comprehensive knowledge of animal behaviour and industry practices.
- Demonstrated expertise in handling and caring for a range of avian species, with poultry and pigeon experience being advantageous.
- Proven ability to effectively coach and mentor staff.

- A sound knowledge base and applicable experience in managing animal welfare and understanding animal behaviour and industry practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
