System Developer Role

The role of a system developer is a critical position within the defence sector, working on complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia's future.

  • Supporting project planning and execution of engineering programs and participating in engineering engagement with industry as part of a holistic contract management approach.
  • Conducting requirements and specification development for effective project delivery.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, providing guidance and support to junior engineers through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
  • Developing engineering advice for project leadership and creating formal briefings and correspondence to facilitate communication and collaboration.
  • Reviewing and accepting contract deliverables, supporting certification activities and ensuring the quality of system-level certification.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Engineering degree (or equivalent qualification) from Engineers Australia, plus ideally postgraduate qualifications in relevant fields.
  • Proven ability to create high-quality engineering documentation to support government approvals and project delivery.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity and responsibility in performing complex technical work activities with limited supervision.
  • Effective risk management and application of testing and evaluation techniques across the system development life cycle.
  • Familiarity with Defence processes and structures.
