About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Organiser to fill a full-time position in our South Coast office, covering the New South Wales region.

The ideal candidate will be on the front lines of workplace advocacy, supporting members and building capacity through organising, negotiations, and campaigns.

Key responsibilities include:

  • BUILDING STRONG WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIPS AND LEADING RECRUITMENT CONVERSATIONS THAT PROMOTE UNION VALUES AND COLLECTIVE STRENGTH
  • DEVELOPING AND IMPLEMENTING STRATEGIC ORGANISING PLANS TO IMPROVE WORKPLACE EXPERIENCES
  • Negotiating enterprise agreements with employers to secure better outcomes for members
  • IDENTIFYING AND DEVELOPING WORKPLACE DELEGATES AND MEMBER LEADERS TO ADVANCE UNION INTERESTS
  • Visiting worksites regularly to identify new organising opportunities and build member engagement
  • PROVIDING SUPPORT AND ADVICE TO MEMBERS ON WORKPLACE ISSUES AND GRIEVANCES IN A TIMELY AND EFFECTIVE MANNER
  • PARTICIPATING IN AND LEADING WORKPLACE CAMPAIGNS TO ADVANCE UNION GOALS
  • Representing the union and its members at the Fair Work Commission to resolve disputes and negotiate agreements
  • COLLABORATING WITH OHS DELEGATES TO UPHOLD SAFE AND FAIR WORKPLACES
Selection Criteria

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in workplace organising or campaigning, ideally within a union or not-for-profit context
  • Strong knowledge of the Australian union movement and industrial legislation
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Proactive, adaptable, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and experience using CRM or member database systems
  • ABILITY TO MANAGE CONFIDENTIAL AND SENSITIVE MATTERS WITH DISCRETION
  • A current driver's licence and willingness to travel within the region

Desirable criteria include:

  • A commitment to ongoing learning and innovation in organising practice
  • Experience representing members before industrial tribunals or in enterprise bargaining processes
