We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior/Staff Automation Controls Engineer to join our team.

This role is a key part of our warehouse automation solution, where you will be responsible for the hardware interfacing between customers and our robots.

You will design and maintain safety-critical hardware that is highly robust, debuggable, and fast. You will determine the optimal blend of off-the-shelf and custom hardware solutions to complex electro-mechanical problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with firmware and PCBA design engineers to determine the ideal balance between off-the-shelf and custom in-house embedded hardware
  • Design high-voltage, low-voltage, and I/O electrical cabinets for automated pallet storage systems
  • Select and integrate turntables that can rotate heavy pallets 360 degrees
  • Develop hardware that enables embedded systems to have PLC-esque expandable I/O
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A passion for designing, building, and integrating better automation and automation tooling
  • Experience selecting and integrating off-the-shelf automation equipment as well as developing in-house embedded hardware
  • Proficiency with Beckhoff or Siemens controllers (including TwinSAFE and Siemens Safety)
  • Experience with embedded systems and microcontrollers and ability to replace off-the-shelf systems where necessary
  • Electrical panel design using ePLAN or AutoCAD
  • Experience debugging and fixing complex electro-mechanical systems with a strong hands-on approach to expertly building and reworking electro-mechanical systems
  • Available for infrequent domestic travel to support integration and test activities at customer sites
  • Ability to effectively convey complex ideas and technical concepts to a diverse audience
  • Experience writing and debugging C++ and/or Python is a plus
