Key Responsibilities:

Nurse Unit Managers (NUMs) are pivotal to the coordination of patient care, unit management, and leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and efficient use of resources. They are responsible for liaison with all healthcare disciplines for the provision of services to meet patient needs. Additionally, they orchestrate services to meet patient needs after discharge, such as monitoring catering and transport services. They also implement hospital and health service policies, disseminate relevant information to all personnel, and ensure environmental safety. Furthermore, they direct, coordinate, and supervise nursing activities, training, appraisal, and counseling of nurses, rostering and/or allocation of nursing staff, and develop and/or implement new nursing practices according to patient needs.

About the Role:

They must be able to make decisions quickly and effectively, and be able to adapt to changing circumstances. They must also be able to work collaboratively with other departments and teams to ensure that the needs of patients are met. They must also be able to provide leadership and guidance to staff, and to ensure that they are trained and competent to perform their roles. They must also be able to ensure that the unit is run in accordance with hospital and health service policies and procedures, and that all staff are aware of their responsibilities and accountabilities. They must also be able to ensure that the unit is run in a way that is safe, efficient, and effective.
