About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Power Controller to join our team at Rio Tinto's Boyne Smelters Limited in Gladstone, Australia.

As a Power Controller, you will be responsible for the maintenance and continuous improvement of high voltage assets, infrastructure, and distribution systems.

You will work closely with our Power Supply Operations team to ensure a continuity of electrical supply to the smelter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve high voltage assets, infrastructure, and distribution systems
  • Understand and apply high voltage and maintenance procedures and work practices
  • Identify root causes of breakdowns and implement solutions to eliminate them
  • Operate high voltage assets to ensure a continuity of electrical supply
  • Prepare, check, and participate in high voltage switching procedures
  • Liaise with external power providers
  • Lead teams as required to complete specific tasks or projects
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A commitment to safety and a strong safety record
  • Valid C Class driver's license
  • Australian 'A' grade Electrical license
  • High Voltage Isolation and Access (HVIA) certificate (desirable)
  • Relevant experience in an aluminum smelter and/or heavy industrial environment
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
