Medical Educator Role Overview

We are seeking a medical professional with expertise in teaching and mentoring to join our team as a Medical Educator. This is an impactful and diverse role that partners with cultural specialists to support training and education in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.

About the Position

  • This role requires significant knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare, demonstrated experience in Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander health, and supervision of junior medical professionals.
  • The ideal candidate will possess high-level cultural safety and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Substantial experience in clinical care provision in a general practice setting, including teaching in undergraduate and/or postgraduate medical education, is essential.
  • The successful applicant will demonstrate inter-personal and people management skills, with experience relating to various stakeholders.

About the Opportunity

  • You will assist in developing, delivering, reviewing, and evaluating cultural education workshops, including a clinical education component, and mentorship programs.
  • You will work collaboratively with the cultural education team to support GP Registrars with their individual cultural learning plans and GP Supervisors regarding the cultural education aspects of the GP Training program.
  • You will provide valuable feedback and progress reports to GP Registrars and Supervisors and the cultural education team as required.
  • You will contribute to developing a collaborative cultural education and mentorship program relevant to rural, remote, and generalist medicine and health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the regional team to build capability and skills to best support GP Registrars, Supervisors, and Practices.
  • Ensure through your leadership approach that an inclusive working environment and culture thrive within the organization, focusing on outcomes for employees that improve engagement, retention, development, and productivity.
