Marine Conservation Specialist

A marine conservation specialist plays a crucial role in preserving the world's oceans and their inhabitants. This position requires dedication, passion, and a strong commitment to environmental protection.

  • This includes enforcing laws and regulations related to fisheries and small craft safety, as well as working with local communities to promote sustainable fishing practices and reduce waste.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and possess a deep understanding of marine ecosystems and conservation principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Enforce state and commonwealth statutes related to fisheries and small craft safety, conducting inspections and investigations as needed.
  2. Deliver education and outreach programs to fishers, small craft users, and other community members, promoting knowledge and understanding of relevant laws and regulations.
  3. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and commonwealth fisheries and maritime safety legislation, staying current with changes and developments in the field.
  4. Liaise with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders, providing expert advice and escalating complex issues when necessary.
  5. Engage in public outreach and education activities, participating in events and delivering presentations on marine-related topics.
  6. Perform routine maintenance of departmental equipment and materials, ensuring they remain in good operational condition.
