Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled legal professional to provide expert advice and support in ensuring that our functions are conducted in compliance with relevant legislation and policy.

This is a key role within our organisation, requiring a deep understanding of the legal framework and the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical and effective manner.

About the Role

As a senior legal professional, you will be responsible for providing high-level legal support to assist in ensuring that our functions are conducted in compliance with relevant legislation and policy. You will proactively identify and manage legal risk, working closely with colleagues to ensure that our staff are able to understand and meet statutory and legal obligations concerning our functions and powers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide independent written and oral legal advice on a range of complex legislative, operational, corporate and governance matters.
  • Implement processes and procedures for the efficient running of the Office of Legal Counsel and the effective provision of legal services to mitigate risk.
  • Support our privacy and Freedom of Information functions.
Requirements
  • A degree in law from an Australian tertiary institution, or a comparable overseas qualification.
  • Admission to practice as a barrister/solicitor in an Australian State or Territory and ability to acquire a practising certificate.
  • Minimum 3 years post admission experience, preferably in a government setting.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at Baseline level.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate successfully to people in a range of positions.
