About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Defence Sector Cost Planner to join our commercial team in Canberra, ACT. This position requires defence projects experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Design Manager, review developing designs throughout all phases and provide cost planning advice to ensure budget allowances.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of developing designs and influence cost-effective outcomes by attending design meetings and providing cost advice.
  • Provide design consultants with budget-informed direction in a timely manner to facilitate the design development process within budget parameters.
  • Explore, price, and propose innovative value engineering and design options to the project team and maintain a register of these items throughout the project.
  • Identify, price, and submit head contract variations to clients, and negotiate financial outcomes with representatives.
  • Perform regular quantity verification analysis on developing designs to ensure current scope does not exceed contractual scope and associated budget allowances.
  • In conjunction with the Commercial Manager, develop the project Budget-to-Build to a suitable format, ensuring it is mapped to the original tender budget.

About You

  • Minimum 5 years industry experience in similar positions.
  • Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Quantity Surveying preferable.
  • Advanced experience in Estimating/Cost Planning, Risk Identification, and Value Engineering, with knowledge and experience of large, complex projects including defence.
  • Demonstrated ability to review detail of developing designs according to budget requirements and influence design outcomes accordingly.
  • Sound technical construction knowledge.

Estimated Salary: AU$120,000 - AU$180,000 per annum
