Job Title:

Data Governance Lead

About the Role:

We are seeking a visionary Data Governance Lead to develop and execute a comprehensive data governance strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and scaling a fit-for-purpose data governance function from the ground up, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and regulatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design and implement a company-wide data governance framework that drives business value and mitigates risk.
  2. Establish roles, responsibilities, and ownership models across data domains, including data stewards, custodians, and owners.
  3. Develop and embed policies, standards, and data controls for quality, classification, access, and lifecycle management.
  4. Collaborate with teams across IT, risk, finance, and business units to promote data accountability and literacy.
  5. Work with technology partners to implement or optimise governance tooling, such as data catalogues, lineage, and metadata management.
  6. Define and track governance KPIs and maturity levels, reporting regularly to senior leadership.
  7. Act as the key governance lead on initiatives relating to privacy, compliance, AI readiness, and data quality.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in data governance, data management, or data quality leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK or CDMC.
  • Hands-on experience developing data policies, ownership models, and controls in a regulated environment.
  • Financial services experience highly regarded, especially in ASX-listed or APRA-regulated organisations.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Snowflake, Microsoft Purview, Collibra, or similar platforms is highly regarded.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • A strategic mindset, balanced with the ability to deliver quick wins and scale iteratively.
