Job Description

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiochemist Specialist to join our team at SGS Australia. As a key member of our radioanalytical services section, you will be responsible for ensuring customer service expectations are met and the section operates to appropriate quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and Maintain Radioanalytical Facilities: Ensure the day-to-day operations of the radioanalytical preparation and counting laboratory facilities are running smoothly and efficiently.
  • Prepare Environmental Samples: Prepare environmental samples for radionuclide analysis, adhering to strict quality control procedures.
  • Process Data and Reports: Process data, including radioactivity calculations following analysis, and prepare and issue reports to clients.
  • Calibrate and Maintain Radiation Counting Systems: Perform routine calibration and maintenance of radiation counting systems and associated analytical laboratory instrumentation.
  • Ensure Quality Control and Accreditation: Ensure all testing methodology and quality control procedures are performed according to NATA and ISO17025 standards.
  • Meet Time and Quality Standards: Ensure TATs are met and immediate actions are taken if potential delays are identified.
  • Develop and Validate Methods: Develop and implement new methods and procedures, and validate existing ones to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Train and Develop Staff: Develop and implement training plans for staff in your section to ensure a competent cross-trained workforce is maintained.
  • Provide Technical Support: Respond to technical queries from internal and external customers, and address all enquiries for radioanalysis, including providing quotations and determining appropriate analyses in consultation with clients.

Requirements:

  • Science Degree: A Science degree (preferably nuclear physics, radiochemistry or other related discipline), or previous experience working in a science discipline.
  • Commercial Laboratory Experience: Demonstrable commercial environmental laboratory experience.
  • NATA Signatory Status: Previous NATA signatory or delegated NATA signatory status.
  • Supervisory Experience: Previous supervisory experience (desirable).
