Job Description

The Crisis Intervention Specialist will provide real-time support in high-risk situations, focusing on individuals at risk of self-harm, harm to others, or experiencing crisis situations. This role involves completing outbound calls to assess patient welfare and provide interventions to those in distress.

Key Responsibilities
  • Crisis Response
    • Provide immediate mental health interventions to patients in crisis.
    • Liaise with emergency services and refer patients as necessary.
    • Offer focused psychological strategies and interventions to address crisis situations.
    • Exercise independent professional judgment to manage patient presentations.
    • Communicate effectively with the team in complex situations.
    • Follow up with patients requiring welfare checks.
  • Risk Assessment and Prevention
    • Conduct risk assessments, safety planning, and provide referral pathways.
    • Communicate high-risk patient concerns with internal teams.
    • Complete incident reporting based on patient interventions.
  • Compliance
    • Maintain accurate records, including clinical notes and incident reports.
    • Stay up-to-date with risk management, safety, and quality frameworks.
    • Respect patient confidentiality in line with organizational policies and the Privacy Act.
    • Maintain professional registrations and accreditations as required.
    Requirements
    • Previous experience as a Mental Health Clinician is highly desirable.
    • Minimum 3 years' experience in mental health and crisis intervention preferred.
    • Experience in crisis intervention and risk assessment is essential.
    • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and single-session interventions is required.
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Previous telehealth experience is highly regarded.
    • Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Welfare, or a related discipline is well regarded.
