We believe that materials are not recycled until they have been made into new products. Our team collects and sorts recyclable materials like paper, cardboard, glass, plastics, and metals from households and businesses, and locally remanufactures them back into new, sustainable packaging.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Safety and Sustainability Expert to join our team in QLD, based at Gibson Island. As a critical member of our HSE management team, you will drive health, safety, and environmental initiatives across multiple Visy sites in QLD, reporting to the National HSE Operations Manager – Northern Region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and promote the desired safety culture, values, and expected behaviors.
  • Drive the implementation of HSE management systems, ensuring ISO standards (45001, 14001) are maintained.
  • Coach and mentor line managers to meet safety goals and regulatory compliance.
  • Facilitate risk assessments, incident investigations (including ICAM), and corrective actions.
  • Oversee WHS training and ensure continuous improvement in safety practices.
  • Analyse and report HSE data to develop targeted improvement strategies.
  • Manage external audits and maintain accreditations.

About You

  • A degree in WHS/OHS, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an HSE leadership role within manufacturing, recycling, logistics, or heavy industrial industry.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE management systems, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to influence and drive cultural change in safety practices.
  • Experience managing multiple sites and diverse stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proactive, solution-focused mindset.
