We are now looking for a Chief Data Governance Strategist to join our Melbourne office for a fixed term full-time 12-month contract (with potential to be extended). The successful candidate will have a strong background in data governance, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

About the Role

This is a hands-on role responsible for leading the development and implementation of data governance strategies and frameworks. Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering on the Data Governance Program of work: regularly reviewing action items outlined in the data governance roadmap, ensuring timely delivery, and sending regular progress updates to key stakeholders.
  • Defining Data Governance Policies and Procedures: implementing data governance policies, standards, and procedures, conducting data audits, enforcing compliance, and maintaining a comprehensive data catalogue.
  • Managing Data Ownership: collaborating with data stewards, data owners, and stakeholders to define data governance goals and objectives, building trust in data assets, and ensuring regular reviews of data owners, stewards, and custodians.
  • Data Governance Stakeholder Management: triaging new requests, providing training and support, fostering a data-savvy culture, and prioritising tasks.
  • Vendor Management: completing market scans, evaluating solution provider performance, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure holistic requirements gathering.
  • Leading the Data Governance Team: leading a team providing operational BI and reporting, monitoring, and data quality, guiding team members, and preparing weekly and monthly progress updates.
What You'll Need

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A Data & Analytics qualification and experience with Data Quality tools and technologies.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to data governance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Ability to build rapport with key stakeholders and influencing skills.
  • Strong time management skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, and superior organisational skills.
  • A team player with a willingness to learn and adapt.
