Job Title: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Specialist
Job Summary:
The role of the Cultural Liaison Officer is to provide cultural support and advice to management and staff on issues pertaining to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners.
This includes working with a multidisciplinary team to manage the progression of Indigenous prisoners through the correctional system, including assessing prisoners and providing reports to sentence management and professional staff.
Key responsibilities include liaising with prisoners' families, management and government agencies, as well as coordinating Elder visits to correctional centres and facilitating offender access to required legal services.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Current and detailed knowledge of indigenous issues, trends and practices
- Ability to analyse the impact of these issues on prisoners
- Self-awareness and consistency in modelling attitudes and behaviours necessary in a correctional environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
