We are seeking an experienced Government Relations and Public Affairs professional to lead the enhancement of our relationships with governments and other stakeholders. As a key member of our team, you will drive positive outcomes for the community, our members, customers, and business.
This role offers the chance to collaborate with key stakeholders and create lasting public benefit, making a real impact on Australia's future.
You will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive government relations and public affairs strategies, positively promoting our initiatives and policies by building and maintaining strong working relationships with key Ministerial and Shadow contacts, Members of Parliament, government departments, agencies, industry leaders, and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement government relations and public affairs strategies to enhance our reputation and influence policy decisions.
- Become a trusted advisor to senior management and the Executive Leadership Team on government relations matters.
- Represent us at external events, including government hearings and inquiries, and act as a spokesperson for our organisation.
- Monitor the political and regulatory environment, identifying key areas of public policy for opportunities and impacts to our operations.
- Contribute to the promotion, education, communication, influence, and publication of key advocacy messages and campaigns across all levels of government.
To succeed in this role, you will require:
A minimum of 10 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, or a related field; preferably within the standards, regulatory, association, or not-for-profit sectors.
Tertiary level qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as public relations, political science, communications, or a related field.
A proven track record in developing and executing successful government relations and public affairs strategies, including a current strong network of government and associated relationships.
Skills and QualitiesThe ideal candidate will possess:
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to assess and critically evaluate information and research.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and writing skills, including the demonstrated ability to write reports, project proposals, submissions, and newsletters.
Ability to initiate and manage projects, develop and implement strategies, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities within a team environment.
High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential information.
