Job Overview

The CHPP Maintenance Superintendent is a critical role that oversees all aspects of the Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) mechanical and electrical maintenance, including shutdown planning, execution, and continuous improvement initiatives.

This position plays a fundamental role in ensuring the reliability and performance of the CHPP and requires strong leadership and team development skills to lead, develop and mentor a team of engineers, planners, supervisors, tradespeople and contractors.

The successful candidate will have extensive supervisory experience within a coal handling prep plant and a proven track record in preventative maintenance, shutdown execution, and cost control.

About this role:

  • Develop and execute proactive maintenance plans to minimize downtime and extend plant life.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, planners and supervisors, promoting a strong safety culture and operational excellence.
  • Manage budgets, contractor performance, and long-term asset integrity strategies.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Engineering to identify and deliver reliability improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, safety, and environmental obligations.

About you:

  • A trade or engineering qualification in mechanical, electrical, or related disciplines.
  • Extensive supervisory experience within a coal handling prep plant.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • A proven track record in preventative maintenance, shutdown execution, and cost control.
  • Relevant Coal Mining Competencies would be highly recommended.
  • SAP and Xeras experience is desirable.
  • A strong safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance focus.

This role provides a unique opportunity to work near the picturesque Mackay hinterland, just over an hour away, and a short drive from Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands. Our diverse workforce commutes from various Queensland locations, including Rockhampton and Townsville.
