Job Summary

The Human Resources Leave and Accommodations Specialist is a key role at Florida Tech, responsible for managing the university's employee leave of absence programs. These programs include medical leaves, family leave, disability leave, and coordinating reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and university policies.

This position requires excellent interpersonal skills to provide guidance to employees and managers throughout the leave process, interacting with various levels of personnel throughout the university, and providing exemplary customer service to internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interprets and administers leave programs and policies in accordance with applicable federal and state employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, USERRA, and Pregnancy Discrimination Act.
  • Administers all aspects of leave programs, providing extensive case management and coordinating administrative aspects of cases and claims.
  • Manages all administrative aspects of leave, including tracking hours used/taken, analyzing, investigating, and reconciling leave and pay discrepancies, working closely with Payroll to ensure accurate and correct pay for employees.
  • Manages Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) programs and vendor relationships, ensuring STD claims are coordinated with FMLA or other types of leaves of absence.
  • Maintains regular communication with employees on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work, and relays communication between employees and their managers during leave within reason.
  • Trains and educates the campus community on applicable leave and accommodation practices and procedures.
  • Drafts and/or recommends revisions to company leave policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, maintaining complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests.
  • Chairs the UDC Accommodation & Accessibility Subcommittee.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field.

  • Knowledge of legal policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Workday.
