Senior Legal Counsel

The Senior Legal Counsel will lead the country legal function, providing high-impact legal counsel and risk analysis on renewable energy project development.
This includes delivering legal advice on project permitting processes, regulatory approvals, and compliance with Australian energy laws. Additionally, they will draft, review, and negotiate various legal agreements, including non-disclosure agreements, memoranda of understanding, power purchase agreements, engineering procurement and construction contracts, consultancy contracts, and submissions to government bodies.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver legal counsel on renewable energy project development, permitting processes, regulatory approvals, and compliance with Australian energy laws.
- Draft, review, and negotiate diverse legal agreements.
- Liaise with and coordinate approvals or regulatory requirements with key Australian authorities and state and local government agencies.
- Provide legal support for due diligence, joint venture arrangements, and structuring of investments in both project development and acquisitions.
- Oversee compliance with Australian legal and regulatory frameworks, including corporate, employment, and environmental law, and manage corporate secretarial issues with external counsel.
- Assist in resolving disputes, managing claims, addressing regulatory issues, and overseeing relationships with external legal advisors.
- A qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Australia, holding an LL.B. or J.D. from a recognized law school.
- A minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience, ideally in a top-tier law firm or multinational corporation.
- In-depth knowledge of Australian energy sector regulations, corporate law, land use, and related compliance frameworks.
- Proven experience working with government bodies and regulators, with strong familiarity in licensing, permitting, and compliance procedures.
- Strong command of English, with excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and document review capabilities.
- Highly self-driven and results-focused, with the ability to manage legal matters independently.
- Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating across both local and international teams.
