About the Role

We are currently seeking a senior leader to join our Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) team as the Head of Health, Safety & Security. This key position plays a critical role in managing safety risk management practices to improve organisational safety outcomes and performance.

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic leadership to teams focused on health, hygiene, security, safety, and emergency management;
  • Designing and improving safety related controls, systems, processes, and resources;
  • Determining the underlying cause of problems and evaluating multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex issues;
  • Identifying and assessing risks, while making informed decisions using our risk management framework;

You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, to advance identification, development, and replication of HSS best practices and initiatives.

In this exciting opportunity, you will have the chance to make a meaningful impact on the safe production of iron ore and contribute to the success of our organisation.

The ideal candidate will possess strong experience working in mining operations or in an established HSS function, with a deep understanding of Health, Safety Management systems, and legislation.

Key Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in a Health & Safety related field, Science, Engineering, or Risk Management;
  • Strong leadership and communication skills;
  • An ability to strategize and problem-solve to deliver on outcomes that positively impact the safe production;
  • An understanding of the business context, BHP operating model, and ways of working to enhance decision-making, productivity, and value chain performance;
  • A commitment to building and leading diverse and high-performing teams.

Salary Range

This role offers a salary range of $180,000 - $250,000 per annum, depending on experience.
