Advanced Fusion Materials Researcher
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a groundbreaking research program focused on developing new materials for compact tokamak reactors. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, testing, and characterising advanced fusion materials, working closely with materials modelling experts.
The role involves planning experimental materials testing, managing time and responsibilities, and cultivating productive relationships with stakeholders at both the national laboratory and UNSW. You will have access to cutting-edge facilities, including the OPAL Research Reactor, and opportunities for ion irradiation studies and in-situ testing.
The broader goals of the research include the development of improved materials for modular and compact fusion reactors, fundamental insight into neutron and ion irradiation damage, and development of Australia's capabilities and facilities for nuclear materials research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, test, and characterise advanced fusion materials
- Plan and perform irradiation campaigns of materials with neutrons or charged particles
- Conduct high-quality academic research and collaborate across disciplines
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders
Requirements:
- PhD in a related discipline, or relevant work experience
- Experience in handling active materials or planning and performing irradiation campaigns
- Proven commitment to keeping up-to-date with discipline knowledge and developments
- Demonstrated ability to undertake high-quality academic research and conduct independent research
