The Youth Worker plays a critical role in delivering day-to-day care to young people in the Residential Care house. This involves providing direct support, care, and mentorship to children and young people who may have experienced childhood trauma, abuse, and/or neglect, and may also have a mental health, physical, or psychosocial disability.

Job Role

The role requires flexibility, adaptability, and an openness to learning. You will need to connect with the young person and have resilience and good professional boundaries.

  • Provide individualized care and support to meet the needs of each young person.
  • Develop and implement care plans to promote the well-being and safety of young people.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals to provide comprehensive care and support services.
  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment that promotes the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of young people.
About You

The ideal person for this role would be someone who has a passion for working with young people and has the ability and skills to work with those who display highly complex and challenging behaviours.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Complete case notes, administration tasks, and daily activity plans.
  2. Encourage independent living skills including cooking, meal planning, budgeting, shopping, and cleaning.
  3. Act as an appropriate adult role model, seeking to engage children and young people in purposeful activities aimed at developing life skills and self-worth.
  4. Engage with stakeholders within the community to support the development of children and young people and promote positive relationships.
Mandatory Requirements
  • A QLD Working with Children (Blue Card) or the ability to apply for one.
  • Hold and maintain a full Australian Driver's License.
  • Hold, or be working towards, a Certificate IV or higher in Youth and Community Services or related field.
  • Licensed Care Suitability check (LCS2) or willing to obtain.
  • Ability to travel within Queensland to support activities.
