The Department of Home Affairs is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Assistant Director. As part of our Strategy Branch, you will be responsible for leading the development of strategic policy, including undertaking research and analysis to identify trends and emerging issues.

Job Description

This is an ongoing, full-time position based in Canberra, ACT. The successful candidate will have excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to establish productive relationships both internally and externally. You will also be self-driven, resilient, and able to work under broad direction to develop and implement complex policies aligned to Government and Department strategic priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development of strategic policy documents, briefings, and submissions for senior executives and ministers;
  • Supervising, guiding, and mentoring staff in their work and supporting them to achieve outcomes and build capability;
  • Engaging with a broad range of stakeholders, including consultation with internal and external stakeholders across all stages of the policy development process;
  • Maintaining awareness of policy work being undertaken in other relevant work streams and across the APS to identify interrelationships and impacts;
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this role is $110,788 - $129,928 per annum, plus 15.4% superannuation. We also offer flexible working conditions and a comprehensive benefits package.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this role, you must be an Australian Citizen. You will also be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance.
